Badaun (UP). In Badaun district, a newly married woman has filed a case against her husband and in-laws for gang rape and attempt to kill her for dowry. On Friday, the police registered a case and arrested the accused husband. Senior Superintendent of Police, Budaun, Sankalp Sharma told reporters on Friday night that a newly married woman has made serious allegations against her in-laws, who are angry over not getting dowry. Based on the complaint of the victim, the accused husband has been arrested by registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 3/7 Dowry Act and attempt to murder (307).

He said that action would be taken on the basis of the facts that came to light after medical examination and investigation in the matter. The victim has lodged a complaint with the Zarifnagar police station in Badaun. According to the complaint, a person from Kotwali Sahaswan area had married his daughter to Sunil of Zarifnagar area on June 22. It is alleged that when the newlyweds reached their in-laws’ house, the angry in-laws gang-raped her due to non-receipt of dowry.

The victim is admitted in the district hospital. The accused include two brothers-in-law of the woman and her husband and her two sisters-in-law and jethani supported the accused in the harassment. The victim alleged that after the sexual assault, the accused vandalized her and also tried to make her drink cold drinks mixed with poison. On receiving the information, the victim’s father along with the police reached her in-laws’ house and admitted the daughter to the district hospital for treatment.
