Jammu. Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested an alleged terrorist belonging to Resistance Force, a forward group of Lashkar-e-Taiba and seized 5.5 kg IED from him. Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kohli identified the arrested accused as Nadeem-ul-Haq, a resident of Zainhal-Banihal in Ramban and said that a major tragedy was averted by his arrest. The SSP said that Haq was in touch with his masters in Pakistan and Shopian in South Kashmir.
He said Haq was tasked by the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s forward group Resistance Force to blast an IED at a crowded place. The SSP said that Haq was caught by the police team during a routine check on Barmini Road, where he was going towards Bathindi carrying a yellow colored bag. He said that on seeing the police party, Haq tried to run away which made him suspicious and he was caught after a swift chase. Kohli said that in the search of Haq’s bag, the IED was recovered and he was arrested.
A case has been registered against Haq under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. Terming the arrest as a major success, the SSP said that the investigation is still in the initial stage and more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses. He said that this success has been achieved due to tight security and surveillance by the police team at various places and posts for the last several days.
