Mumbai. Amid positive global cues, the major stock index Sensex saw a jump of over 600 points in early trade on Monday and ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and Kotak Bank gained. The 30-share BSE index was up 641.35 points or 1.34 percent at 48,519.80 during this period. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty jumped 178.90 points or 1.25 percent to 14,520.25. ICICI Bank was the biggest gainer in the Sensex by five per cent.
The bank announced its financial results on Saturday. Besides, UltraTech Cement, SBI, ONGC, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank and Bajaj Finance were also profitable. On the other hand, HCL Tech, Powergrid, Sun Pharma and Tech Mahindra saw a decline. The Sensex fell 202.22 points or 0.42 percent at 47,878.45 in the previous session and the Nifty closed 64.80 points or 0.45 percent at 14,341.35.
As per provisional data of the stock market, foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 1,360.76 crore on a gross basis on Friday. Among Asian markets, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul were up during midday trading. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude was down 0.41 percent at US $ 65.15 per barrel.
