Reliance, BP start production from second gas field in deep water in KG-D6 block

Reliance Industries Ltd and its UK-based partner BP PLC said on Monday that their new deepwater discovery in the KG-D6 block has triggered production from another gas field.

New Delhi. Reliance Industries Ltd and its UK-based partner BP PLC said on Monday that their new deepwater discovery in the KG-D6 block has triggered production from another gas field. The two companies said in a joint statement that production in the R cluster started in December last year and now production has started in the satellite cluster. Reliance and BP have recently discovered two deepwater gas fields in the KG-D6 block, which are called satellite clusters and MJ clusters. “Despite the challenges of Kovid-19, production from the satellite cluster area has started two months ahead of schedule,” the statement said.

Reliance-BP is developing three deepwater gas fields in KG-D6, namely R cluster, satellite cluster and MJ. The total natural gas capacity of these three regions is 30 million standard cubic meters per day by 2023, which can meet 15 percent of India’s gas demand. Reliance holds 66.67 percent stake in these gas fields and BP has 33.33 percent stake.
