New Delhi :

New Zealand players have reached home after defeating India in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). But in view of the social distance due to Corona, the players went straight from the airport to the hotel, where they would stay in quarantine for 14 days. The players did not meet anyone at the airport. During this there were other people including airport staff who wanted to take photos of WTC mess. Fast bowler Neil Wegner later told the media that everything happened while following social distance, due to which we could not shake hands with anyone. We had a mess and everyone wanted to take photos.

Neil Wegner said that it was pleasant to see that some people were able to understand what this meant to them. He congratulated from afar which means a lot to all of us. The International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy came after many years in a country with a population of 5 million. The last time New Zealand won the Champions Trophy was in 2000. Wegner said that I never thought that I would go to the customs and people would congratulate us. Everyone was congratulating us in unison. It was quite pleasant and people were asking where is the mess.

He said that the police officers also wanted to stop and take photos from a distance. It was great to see the laughter on everyone’s face.
The mess is kept in the hotel room of BJ Watling, who retired from international cricket after the final. Watling took five catches in the final. Wegner said that we shared the mess on the plane and during the whole night celebration, the mess came to everyone in turn. He said that on the plane Ross Taylor asked me to give this mess to Bottling. He will keep it with him during the isolation for two weeks.
