NV Ramana, 48th Chief Justice of the country, gave many important decisions including internet restoration in Kashmir

The bench directed the Jammu and Kashmir administration to review the ban orders immediately. A five-judge bench headed by him had refused to send several petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the central government’s decision to repeal the provisions of Article 370 to a larger bench of seven judges in March last year. In November 2019, his bench headed by then Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a power test to prove a majority in the House and said there was a “possibility of purchase horse” if the case was delayed. Born on August 27, 1957, Justice Raman was nominated as an advocate on February 10, 1983. He was appointed as the Permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 27 June 2000 and served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court from 10 March 2013 to 20 May 2013. Justice Raman was elevated as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on 2 September 2013 and was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court on 17 February 2014. Earlier, the Central Government had issued a notification appointing Justice Raman as the 48th Chief Justice. He replaces Justice SA Bobde, who retired yesterday. Chief Justice (now retired) Bobde recommended Justice Raman’s name to hold the post after his retirement as per tradition and seniority order. His recommendation to the central government was made on the day the Supreme Court made public the decision to dismiss it after “properly considering” Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s complaint against Justice Raman. .
