A Delhi court has extended till July 9 the judicial custody of Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar in connection with the alleged murder of a young wrestler at the Chhatrasal Stadium here.

New Delhi. A Delhi court has extended till July 9 the judicial custody of Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar in connection with the alleged murder of a young wrestler at the Chhatrasal Stadium here. Kumar was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Mayank Agarwal on Friday at the end of his 14-day judicial custody. He is facing charges of murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and kidnapping. According to the lawyer of the accused, he has been sent from Mandoli jail to Jail number two of Tihar.

Kumar, along with his associates, thrashed Sagar Dhankhar and two of his friends at the stadium on the intervening night of May 4 and May 5 over an alleged property dispute. Later, Dhankhar (23) succumbed to his injuries. Police claimed that Sushil Kumar is the “prime accused and mastermind” of the murder and electronic evidence is also available in which Kumar and his accomplices can be seen thrashing Dhankhar.

Sushil Kumar was caught on May 23 along with his partner Ajay Kumar Sehrawat. So far, he has been in police and judicial custody for 10 and 23 days respectively. A total of 10 people including Sushil Kumar have been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
