An Indonesian religious leader has been sentenced to four years in prison for hiding the fact that he was infected with the corona virus. Thousands of his supporters tried to rally there demanding Shihab’s release, forcing the authorities to block the road leading to the court.

Shihab has been facing several criminal trials since returning from exile in Saudi Arabia last November. The same court had sentenced him to eight months on May 27 for violating health guidelines during Kovid-19 by gathering people at his daughter’s wedding and religious seminars. It was only after the above meetings that he was treated for Kovid-19 at ‘Ummi Hospital’ in Bogor, but the hospital authorities kept his health information secret. It was said in the lawsuit that Shihab gave false information about his health, the news which appeared on many news forums and also went viral on social media. By doing so he put the people of the community in danger.
