After the Mumbai Indians team reached 131 for barely six wickets against Punjab Kings, Stokes tweeted, “Hopefully the wickets will not get worse as the IPL progresses.” Scores of 130–140 are being scored due to poor wickets, whereas scores up to 160–170 are required.

Chennai hosted nine IPL matches till Friday and the team batting first on only two occasions managed to score over 170. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 204 against Kolkata Knight Riders while Knight Riders scored 187 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
