Train number 02414 was on its way to Margao when it derailed in the Karbude tunnel, about 325 km from Mumbai, at around 4.15 am. He said that a big stone had fallen on the tracks, due to which the train derailed.
“The front wheel of the locomotive of Rajdhani Superfast train derailed in the Karbude tunnel located between Ukshi and Bhoke stations in Ratnagiri area of Konkan Railway,” the official said. A Rail Maintenance Vehicle (RMV) has reached the accident spot and An Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV) with equipment to bring the train back on track has left for the accident site from Ratnagiri.
He said, “Officials of Konkan Railway have also reached the spot to clear the line.” Responsible for rail operation on the 756-km stretch between Roha near Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Thokur near Mangalore (Karnataka). Konkan Railway handles. The route spans three states – Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka and covers many rivers, valleys and mountains, making it one of the challenging terrains.
