Two Dalit boys, aged 10 and 11, were allegedly tied to a tree and brutally beaten up for hours by a garden owner in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh. Because they had plucked berries from his garden. The incident is of Gehua village. When their mothers went to look for them, they found them still tied to the tree and unconscious. They informed the personnel of the Mohammadi police station but on Wednesday, the police registered an FIR after photographs of the children were shared on social media. The main accused Kailash Verma has been arrested and sent to jail.
Police said that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident. In their complaint, the families of both the boys alleged that the boys were plucking some berries from a tree in a private school premises and eating them when 25-year-old Kailash, the owner of the school, caught hold of them. He tied the boys to a tree and beat them fiercely. He did not leave the children even after the minors were crying and begging for mercy repeatedly. Pawan’s mother Sarita Devi said that some children who had gone to the school to drink water saw Kailash beating up the boys and informed him. She and Dheeraj’s mother reached the spot and saw Kailash was drinking and both the boys were lying unconscious.
Sarita Devi said, ‘We had a heated argument with Kailash and the police was informed. Kailash’s family is now trying to persuade us to withdraw the complaint, but we have refused. Brijesh Tripathi, SHO, Mohammadi police station, said, “We have registered an FIR under IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and provisions of the SC, ST Act. The accused has been arrested and sent to jail in judicial custody. The boys have been sent for medical examination. The report is awaited.
