Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted, “Corona curfew will be fully implemented in the Union Territory from 8 pm on 24 April (Saturday) to 6 am on 26 April (Monday). Necessary and emergency services will be allowed. All markets and commercial institutions will remain closed. “On April 8, the Jammu and Kashmir administration ordered the night curfew to be implemented in the urban areas of eight districts from 10 am to 6 am, which was later extended to the Union Territory on April 20. It was also ordered to be implemented in the municipal and urban local body boundaries of all 20 districts.
Officials said that the total number of infected people in the union territory rose to 1,56,344 in Jammu and Kashmir after 1,937 new cases of infection were reported on Friday, out of which the total death toll rose to 2,111 after the death of 19 people in one day. Apart from extending the night curfew on April 20, the administration had said that only passengers up to 50 percent capacity would be allowed in public transport (Matador / Minibus / Bus) and market premises / markets in corporation and urban local body areas / Half the shops will open in the mall one day and the other half the next day. The shopkeepers followed the order with some objections, but private transporters in Jammu started an indefinite strike on 21 April. The transporters went on strike demanding a 50 per cent hike in fares. The ‘Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’ had appealed to the Union Territory Administration to review its order, claiming that the order was causing considerable inconvenience to the business community and a large number of people.
