Archery World Cup finalists in women’s team, India eye four medals


India is also in the medal race in three other events for the Archery World Cup. Atanu Das and Deepika are in the race for mixed doubles bronze medal. Both of them are also in the race to win individual medals.

Deepika Kumari, The Indian women’s recurve team of Ankita Bhakta and Komalika Bari entered the finals of the first leg of the Archery World Cup by winning in straight sets over Spain here. The third seeded Indian men’s team, however, suffered a 26–27 defeat to Spain in the quarter-finals leading up to the shootoff. Both teams were tied 4-4 earlier. India is also involved in the medal race in three other events. Atanu Das and Deepika are in the race for mixed doubles bronze medal. Both of them are also in the race to win individual medals. Spain’s Ilia Canales, Ines de Velasco and Lairi Fernadis Infante in the women’s semifinals did not appear at any time against the Indians.

The Indian team scored 55, 56 and 55 and won 6–0. This is the first time since Shanghai 2016 when the women’s team reached the final of the World Cup. The women’s team will face seventh seeded Mexico in the gold medal bout on Sunday. In the absence of strong Asian teams like Korea, China and Chinese Taipei, India was considered a strong contender for the title. The Indian women’s recurve team has won the gold medal on four occasions so far and Deepika has been a part of all of them. Her husband Atanu Das, who is in the race for her first individual medal in the World Cup, will also be eyeing. Das’s previous best in the individual category is the fourth place he achieved at Antalya in 2016. Das will face 20-year-old Angel वlvardo of Mexico in the semi-finals.
