Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will attend the event on Friday where Navjot Singh Sidhu will formally take over as the state Congress chief. Kuljit Singh Nagra and Sangat Singh Gilzian, out of the four newly appointed working presidents of the party’s state unit, have given a formal invitation to the Chief Minister for the program to take over. Sidhu and Amarinder have been at loggerheads for some time now. Amritsar (East) MLA Sidhu had hit out at the Chief Minister for the sacrilege of the holy book.
The Chief Minister had also opposed Sidhu being made the state president and said that he would not meet Sidhu until he apologized for the derogatory tweet against him. After meeting Amarinder Singh, Nagra told reporters that the chief minister would attend the event. Nagra said, “The Chief Minister has been invited on behalf of Pradhan Sahab (PPCC President), Ministers and MLAs. He has accepted the invitation and will reach there to give his blessings.” Later, the Media Advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab said in a tweet, “The Chief Minister of Punjab addressed all Congress MLAs, MPs and party functionaries of the state on Friday. Punjab Bhavan is invited for tea at 10 o’clock in the day.
