National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Director Sujit Singh said that nine cases of Delta Plus have been reported in Tamil Nadu, seven in Madhya Pradesh, three in Kerala, two each in Punjab and Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Jammu. One case each has been reported in Kashmir, Haryana and Karnataka.

Along with this, the Center emphasized that there are still very limited cases of this mutation and it cannot be said that it is showing an increasing trend. “The cases of this mutation (Delta Plus) are very limited,” Singh said at the health ministry’s media briefing. In India, there are very limited cases (of Delta Plus). There are around 50 cases which have been reported in 12 districts and this happened in the last three months. It cannot be said that there is a trend of growth in any district or state…. Ten institutions including NCDC are involved in genome sequencing of corona virus in the country. He said that the delta plus form is represented by the ‘plus’ sign. He said, it does not mean that the severity of its spread is high or that it can lead to more serious disease. If there is scientific evidence, we will definitely tell you about it. He said that of the samples sequenced in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana and West Bengal, more than 50 per cent have a delta pattern. Singh said that 90 percent of the cases of Kovid-19 in India are of B.1.617.2 (Delta) form. He said, “Worrying COVID cases have been found in 174 districts of 35 states/UTs. Most of these cases have been found in Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat.
He said that the proportion of cases of worrying nature of Kovid-19 increased from 10.31 per cent in May, 2021 to 51 per cent in June, 2021. The government emphasized that both the vaccines for COVID-19 – Covishield and Covaccine – are effective against alpha, beta, gamma and delta forms of SARS-CoV-2. The government said that the second wave of Kovid in India is not over yet, even now the rate of corona virus infection is more than 10 percent in 75 districts and between 5-10 percent in 92 districts. Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) while talking about the Delta Plus form said that it is now present in 12 countries. He said that 48 cases have been reported in 10 Delta Plus states in India and they are very local.
